Tim’s Baked Apples

A low stress, delicious recipe that will impress your guests.  The comforting combination of apple and cinnamon  in a beautiful presentation will warm you from the inside out.


  • 6 large Roma apples

Cinnamon Streusel Topping

  • 4 tablespoons firm butter
  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 4 tablespoons packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Baking Jus

  • 6 oz simple syrup*
  • 3/4 stick of sweet butter


  • For Streusel mix, cut butter into flour, brown sugar and cinnamon using a pastry blender or crisscrossing 2 knives
  • Core and peel the upper 1/3 of apples and place in a shallow baking dish
  • Fill each apple to the top with Streusel mix
  • Slice butter in 6 pieces and place on top of apples
  • Bake in the oven at 250 degrees, basting apples with baking jus every half hour (depending on your oven, bake time will be approximately 2 hours**)
  • Serve warm with pan juices and vanilla ice cream

Baking notes:

  • *To make simple syrup, heat equal parts sugar and water until melted
  • **Apples are done when inserting a bamboo skewer, it slides in freely
