Summer Cocktails

Now that we’ve made a little dent in June, we can definitely sense the onset of summer and its warm (read: muggy) NYC days and hot city nights.  Nothing will cool you down and loosen you up at the end of the daily grind like a refreshing cocktail brimming with summer fruit and herbs.   And while we wouldn’t necessarily turn down an invite to enjoy some fine summer spirits at the local rooftop haunt, there’s something especially delish about stirring – or shaking – up our favorite cocktails up at home.  Whether enjoyed poolside with friends or out on the fire escape solo (guilty!), CxRA cocktails are the quintessential summertime tonics.  Here are two of our favs for the season

Strawberry Basil Gimlet

  • 2 Large Strawberries
  • 3 Basil Leaves
  • Juice from ½ Lime
  • Squirt of Agave Nectar
  • 1 ¾ oz Gin

Method:

  • Combine strawberries, basil, lime juice and agave nectar in a cocktail shaker
  • Muddle all completely with a muddler or wooden spoon
  • Add ice to the shaker and pour in the gin
  • Cover and shake well
  • Pour into a chilled glass and garnish with strawberry and basil leaf

Cucumber-Rosemary G&T

  •  1 Cucumber
  • 1 Lime
  • 3 Sprigs Rosemary
  • 2 oz Gin
  • 4 oz Tonic Water
  • Ice

Method

  • Peel half of the cucumber and slice
  • Cut lime into wedges
  • Add three slices of peeled cucumber, 1 sprig rosemary, juice from one lime wedge and 1 ounce gin in a highball glass
  • Muddle all
  • Strain through a mesh strainer into a second highball glass
  • Add several cubes of ice and three slices of unpeeled cucumber
  • Top with remaining gin and tonic and garnish with rosemary sprigs
